The Big Long Paragraph In This Blog Is Full Of Nerdy Content

Posted by Wes Decker on June 15, 2008

So, Artista needs to be less good at art. I felt actual pain as I tried to squeeze the words in as to minimize the covering up of her fantastic work this week. I’m afraid the words take too much away from the art. Sad.

Although maybe it’s just because of the subject matter that I feel this way. This is actually a ‘poem’ that Whaleweigh and I wrote back in 2006, upon deciding that neo-emo was the new emo and that it was a movement that was more annoying than painful.

“more annoying than painful – the story of my life”
A Neo-Emo Poem by Phoenix and Whaleweigh

drip, drip, drip
the chinese water torture of my life goes by
fingernails scrape across a chalkboard
we’re out of milk again.

For the full effect, you’d have to see Whaleweigh read this live. Fantastic.

Reminder! This is your last week to enter our contest! All entries due at midnight, Saturday, June 21st! Full details found here! Exclamation mark!

This Friday I’m DMing a campaign of D&D using the new 4th edition rules. It’s been so long since I’ve actually DM’d, and with the new rules, it might as well be like my first time. Regardless, I’m excited in degrees that can only be categorized as ‘stoked’. My experience with 4th edition so far has been limited to perusing of the new rulebooks and the sample campaign I picked up, but so far I’m happy with most of the changes. The books are considerably more streamlined, which goes with what I think was their main goal in mind when revising the 3rd edition. Combat, skills, feats are all simplified for ease of play. Some might consider this a ‘dumbing down’, but I’ll reserve judgement until I see it in action for a few sessions at least. One of the changes that I’m not so happy to see is the removal of the bard class, which has always been my favorite by far. It seems like it was cut under the same streamlining rule, as the classes have been hammered out into the functions they perform in a group, as has been stressed more and more in RPGs as of late. Fighters and paladins are your tanks, clerics and warlords are your healers/support, rogues, rangers and warlocks are your DPS, and wizard is your AoE nuker. Classes such as the bard, druid, and monk were dropped, sadly. Just not enough room. Anyway, I am looking forward to the new rules. We’ll see how things go.

Sorry for that brief interlude into far nerdier lands than many of you are used to. And if you just skipped that big, long, scary paragraph, welcome back. Did you have a nice break? Good. This is what you missed, according to Artista: “its like, blah blah blah, tanks, warlocks, blah blah…” Fantastic.

That’s it for this week. Hope everyone’s summers are going well so far. Remember to drink lots of water; it’s getting hot out there. Dehydration can kill you, you know. Clear and copious! Now you know. And knowing is half the battle!

Such ingratitude after all the times I’ve saved your life,

Phoenix

PS I just had the most delicious chocolate cake. Oh my gods.

Hello, Something Awful Forums

Posted by Wes Decker on June 9, 2008

Howdy folks. This week’s comic is up late due to a miscommunication between the producer and the artist. My first day of work was today, and as such, I went to bed at some ungodly early hour of like, ten or so. We’ll see if we can’t get the comic up on time regardless of my new work schedule. But here it is! And a blog as well! I sit here, sweaty and gross (EW SWEAT), resisting the urge to shower in order to post a proper blog. It’s what the people demand! Although, as soon as they invent the means to smell over the internet, the people will likely be demanding I shower instead. Ah well.

So! Less than two weeks to enter our contest! Full details can be found here! Please enter! It’ll be fun, I promise!

Artista lost access to the wonderful tablet Ginger had been loaning us, so we’ve got some different art style this week. Also black and white, because black and white means fancy. Everyone knows this. Quick clarification for the comic, Wednesday hates the song “All-Star” by Smashmouth with an intense, fiery passion, while the rest of us here at RHoM love it and are prone to bursting into rounds of it in the car. Wednesday also has a special way of getting me back whenever I play All-Star, so check the comments for that soon.

And with that, dear readers, I leave you ’til next week. In the mean time, leave some comments, peruse posts past (passed?), join the facebook group, and rock out to “All-Star”. Oh, and enter the contest. Adios.

What do you hear?

Phoenix

PS “All-Star” isn’t actually a secret song in Rock Band. Much to our disappointment.

Words Of Wisdom

Posted by Wes Decker on May 12, 2008

Here’s a few thoughts from Wednesday and Charlie. Apologies again for the less than ideal comic. Artista had a rough, busy weekend, so I’ll take the blame for the art in this week’s comic. Ah well. That’s life.

Hope you all had a nice Mother’s Day, which should have included enjoying our special bonus Mother’s Day comic. If you haven’t read it, you should. Just scroll down. It’s easy. You’ll notice some awesome art things happening in that strip. Artista got a hold of a dear friend’s tablet (thank you Ginger!), and she’s having lots of fun with it. You’ll see it in action again next week.

To make up for this week’s comic, here’s a special activity for you. It’s a fill-in-the-blank version of the “Your Mom” comic! Have fun with it. Email your awesome comics to rhomcomics@gmail.com! We might have a special prize for our favorite! Yay!

Well, see you all next week. We’re still trying to get into a groove, as far as art, dialogue, storyline, schedule, and basically everything goes. Once we get into the summer, maybe we’ll get to work that out. We’ll try not to let you down. In the mean time. Check out some of our friends, join the facebook group and leave some comment love! Ta ta for now.

Goodnight moon,
Phoenix

PS There’s a new gladiator on American Gladiators who’s named after me. I hope they don’t sue.

Starving Morlocks

Posted by Wes Decker on April 27, 2008

We apologize (except for Wednesday), from the bottoms of our hearts, for the shoddy art, the shoddy writing, and the apparent tardiness of the comic. We’re new to this, and as such, learning as we go. Both Artista and I had busy weekends, so you get what you get. So there. At least it’s extra big.

Couple new things to the site since last week’s blog: added a page called ‘Phoenix’s Thoughts’ where I’ll be dumping some of my longer rambles. We’ll see how that goes. (EDIT: ‘Phoenix’s Thoughts’ is now a separate blog. Follow the previous link to find it.) For everyone on Facebook, we’ve got a Facebook group. Join it for updates and to be awesome! You also might have noticed the filler post we had up for the last week regarding the comic status. That might stay for future strips, it might not. We’ll see.

Anyway, there you go. Our first truly lame strip. It’ll be better next week.

Now That’s A Name I’ve Not Heard In A Long Time,

Phoenix

PS No ‘ps’ this week.
